Perkins wins prestigious manufacturing award

Perkins has been named as the winner of the EEF South East Region Skills and Training Award, for recognising and successfully implementing a multi-skilled, multi-discipline apprenticeship skills programme, leading to competencies in five different disciplines.

One of the world’s leading suppliers of diesel and gas engines for industrial, agricultural, power generation and marine applications, Perkins won the award for the way it has successfully developed the vocational elements of its apprenticeship programme enabling NVQs to be gained in areas such as Quality, Machining, Operations and Global Engine Development.

Tony Green, factory manager said: “One of our business goals is to attract and develop the best talent. Over the last few years we have been able to offer a broad skills base, which has led to an increase in applicants for our Advanced Apprenticeships in Engineering. We have focused on choosing the right people and making them accountable for becoming capable skilled employees. We are delighted to have won this award.”

The EEF awards, presented at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers. The Skills and Training Award is presented to the company which has done the most to build skills, develop employees and harness the talent of its people.
